Spanische Hofreitschule Morning Exercise
The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world which has practiced for over 440 years and continues to cultivate classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the haute école. The objective of classical equitation is to study the way the horse naturally moves and to cultivate the highest levels of haute école elegance the horse is capable of through systematic training. The result creates an unparalleled harmony between rider and horse, as only Vienna's Spanish Riding School achieves.
Daily training for the High School of Classical Horsemanship
The Morning Exercise offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners by their riders. Watch and experience our young stallions with their grey coats and our "white stars", the fully trained School Stallions. During these lessons, the riders and their horses do simple relaxing exercises and exercises aimed at refining and perfecting a certain movement. Depending on their respective daily goal, the stallions are individually saddled and bridled.
Identify the background of the riders' work through careful observation: The horse learns to understand and to follow the lesson and aids given by his rider. Through targeted strengthening and building up of muscles, the horses' natural movements are developed into the perfect figures of the High School.
As the famous classic school jumps are not practised on a daily basis, they can only be seen occasionally during the Morning Exercise. Immediately after dismounting, the riders give their stallions their deserved reward. From within the pocket of his tailcoat every rider produces a treat - a lump of sugar.
