Hidden Wachau - Small Group Day Trip Through the Wachau Valley

5 out of 5 stars (6 reviews)

Discover the most beautiful section of the Danube Valley on a small-group tour designed to give you an in-depth view of its unique charms. The true allure of the Wachau is fully revealed once you travel beyond the main streets onto the smaller country roads, and only we can take you there—off the beaten track. In our 8-seater Mercedes minivan we’ll drive you through the region’s narrow back streets and the even-narrower wine paths that the larger tour buses simply cannot maneuver. You’ll explore quiet, historic towns, charming villages and spectacular scenery.

Accompanied by your expert driver/guide, you’ll see the whole of the Wachau Valley while learning about its fascinating culture and history. Besides the highlights, you’ll break away from the crowds to also see the more authentic and off-the-beaten-track landscapes. And go even farther afield to visit a rustic wine cave with a 450-year-old wine press set high in the steep slopes of the vineyards.  (This visit is exclusive and not open to the general public). Also nearby, you can visit the oldest church in the valley, dating back to the year 987.

You’ll sample a bit of local wine as well as some other delicacies like the valley’s famed apricot jams and liqueurs. During free time, explore the medieval town of Dürnstein, a well-known Wachau highlight, overlooked by a castle where Richard the Lionheart was once held prisoner.  Then enjoy lunch in a Heuriger, a traditional family-run Austrian wine tavern.

" Excellent company. Excellent tour. "

This was by far one of my favorite things that we did while in Vienna. The tour is fantastic. The ability to go to the smaller wineries is ideal. No big tour buses at the wineries we stopped at. We even traveled with our two small children (ages 2 and 4) and car seats where provided. It was a great family trip for everyone. Don’t hesitate to book this tour.
" Wachau and meek abbey small group day trip "

Yan our guide arrived at the allotted time. We had a beautiful day weather wise. He explained everything along the way and everything we wanted to know. Because it was winter season we visited the abbey first then had lunch in melk. All this went well and was lovely. We then headed to the wachau valley. The drive along the river was beautiful, our wine visits were informative and tasty and the whole valley experience was just what I had been looking forward to. The order in which we did the trip was just the best as I’m glad the day finished with the valley which had been the reason for doing the trip. Also the group we travelled with were lovely people all mixing well and making the experience a wonderful day. I highly recommend this trip and our wonderful guide Yan. Thank you

It was a perfect autum day. Beautiful leaves turning colour, warm but not too warm. The tour of the Melk Abbey was wonderful, with the addition of being on the patron saint's feast day. Lunch under the trees at the winery was delightful. Wine tastings would be a joy for a white wine lover. A great day out from Vienna.
" A Must! "
5 out of 5 stars
One of the best tours we have ever taken. If you are a wine lover and one who enjoys experieriencing the local flavors first hand, this tour is a must. Our guide, Tomas, was a delight....and knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the region. The perfect ending was the cruise down the Danube while listening to Strauss on Pandora!
" March 18 Tour "

I would definitely recommend taking this tour, since the whole day was really well planned out. I was picked up from my hotel and dropped off at my hotel at the conclusion of the day, so there's no need to worry about making your way to the pick-up point and such. It was also obvious that Stylianos (my tour guide) knew a lot about the history of the wine regions as well as Austria in general, and that meant several fascinating discussions. I also learned a lot about wine tasting from Stylianos. I also appreciated how Stylianos would take the group off the beaten track to show us his favourite vistas and hidden secrets in the Wachau Valley. All in all, I truly felt that this tour was worth every cent I paid for it, and much more. So if you're on the fence about booking this tour, go ahead and book it!
" Sights, vine and people "

It was a rainy April day but that did not diminish the splendor of Melk. We were a very mixed group of 5 people plus our guide Mario and we really had good time in Wachaus's vineyards. I find these kind of small group sightseeing trips a very good way to meet new people and share experiences - especially when traveling alone.
