Schoenbrunn Palace - Concert

4 out of 5 stars (4 reviews)

Orangerie Schoenbrunn

The widowed Empress Wilhelmine Amalie had an orangery garden installed in Schoenbrunn with the purpose of overwintering her bitter orange plants inside a greenhouse. Even today, concerts are held in grand old style in this historical location. Clad in historical dress, the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra interprets the most famous works by Mozart and Strauss at the original location every evening.

Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna

Schoenbrunn Palace, or Schloss Schoenbrunn, together with its ancillary buildings and extensive park, belongs by virtue of its long and colourful history to the most important cultural monuments in Austria. The whole ensemble, including the palace, the park with its numerous architectural features, fountains and statues and not least the zoo - the oldest of its kind in the world - was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List late in 1996.

Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra Vienna

The Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra Vienna is a highly professional, traditional and internationally sought-after Viennese chamber orchestra, which has been very successful since its inception in 1994. The orchestra consists of renowned musicians from all of Vienna’s most important orchestras. The members of the orchestra are young, dedicated and artistically highly qualified musicians. All of them have previously played in various orchestras and well-known concert halls in Austria and have received their education and training at internationally renowned conservatories and universities. The Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra Vienna has a long tradition of working with singers and ballet dancers.

Concerts take place daily year-round. Concerts are scheduled daily at 8:30 p.m. Doors to the Orangery open at 8:00 p.m. The concert concludes at approximately 10:15 p.m. (including an intermission of 15 to 20 minutes).

In the first part, you will listen to some of the most marvelous overtures, arias and duets from the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. "Le Nozze di Figaro", "Die Zauberflöte" and "Don Giovanni" to name a few. The most popular operetta arias, waltzes and polkas of the "King of Waltz" Johann Strauss - from "Die Fledermaus" and "Der Zigeunerbaron" to "Donauwalzer" and the famous "Radetzkymarsch" - comprise the second part. The orchestra is accompanied by two opera singers, a soprano and a baritone, and two ballet-dancers in authentic costumes.

After the concert, taxis will be available right outside Schoenbrunn Palace Orangery. The subway runs until midnight in five- to eight-minute intervals.
