Vienna Residence Orchestra - Mozart & Strauss Classical Concerts

5 out of 5 stars (2 reviews)

Daily traditional classical concerts. Listen to the world famous music of W.A. Mozart and Johann Strauss at the most beautiful historical locations in Vienna. Accompagnied by professional opera singers and ballet-dancers, performing in historical costumes of these days.

The Vienna Residence Orchestra — a Viennese chamber orchestra with long tradition — was founded to perform the music of the "Wiener Klassik" in its purest form.
The numerous concert series this orchestra has performed in the last decades have taken place at some of the most beautiful palaces in Vienna.
In 1991 the orchestra was appointed the official representative of the City of Vienna in the festivities commemorative the bicentenary of Mozarts death and has also performed a number of concerts at the «Vienna International Festival».
The program includes the most famous and beautiful works of the Viennese classics of W.A. Mozart and Johann Strauss, played by anything from 10 to 40 musicians, accompanied by professional opera singers and ballet dancers.
One of the best orchestras of Vienna´s music world will take you on a journey through time back to the days of Imperial Vienna.

The Rosenkavalier Palace - it stands - just as one would expect - in Vienna, and bears exactly the same name as on 8th October 1777: Palais Auersperg (Auersperg Palace).
On that day it was purchased by Prince Johann Adam Auersperg, some 50 years after it had been built by master builder Giovanni Christiano Neupauer, according to plans by the legendary Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The original owner was a certain Hieronymus Capece de Rofrano – who’s name immediately transports us directly into Richard Strauss’ opera “Der Rosenkavalier” (The Cavalier of the Rose)! Octavian de Rofrano, the cavalier at the court of the great Austrian Empress Maria Theresia, the gallant suitor with the silver rose, actually existed!

Superb concert, the singers and dancers were a pleasant surprise. Music and sound quality was excellent. Performance could have been 1/2 hour longer!
